Code of Ethics

The Federal Association of Security Officials can only achieve its aims while executives and employees within the Federal Government remain confident that Association members, collectively and individually, will perform with proficiency, integrity, and reliability and will invariably respect the laws of the nation and the rights of federal employees to fair treatment, dignity and privacy. To assure this confidence, FASO adopts the following code of ethics and requires its observance by its members as a binding condition of their membership in the Association.

  • Members shall maintain the highest moral principles, observing the general precepts of truthfulness, honesty and integrity;
  • Members shall perform their duties with professionalism and in accordance with the laws of the land and shall strive for the highest standards of excellence in their performance of such duties;
  • Members shall safeguard and protect all assets within their purview according to their requirements and the standards established by the Policy on Government Security;
  • Members shall continually promote the professionalism, ethics and standards of the Association;
  • Members shall seek to provide security programs that recognize the principle that security is not the goal in itself but rather an essential condition to the attainment of those goals declared by government; and
  • Members shall balance a firm loyalty to their superiors, their subordinates and the citizens of Canada, exercising honesty, courage and professionalism when these loyalties conflict, as invariably they must.
